Currently, the big buzz is about the new hybrids Toyota plans to roll off the production line.
Sources say that Toyota will come out with an additional 4 Toyota brand hybrids and one luxury Lexus model.
Toyota Sienna Hybrid – This will be the first mini-van version of the hybrid for Toyota and families who have gone green have long been asking for a roomier family oriented hybrid vehicle.
Toyota RAV4 Hybrid – The RAV4 hybrid will be the first of Toyota’s hybrid vehicles in a SUV crossover family. Its mileage will be somewhere around the mid to high 30′s range.
Toyota Yaris Hybrid – Toyota originally had the European and Asian markets in mind for this model. A mini-hybrid at a much lower cost.
Toyota Corolla Hybrid – The Corolla hybrid could be the car that puts hybrid vehicles into the highway’s mainstream. It could also be the hybrid that puts the electric-gas technology into the hearts of car buyers, making Toyota stand out in the crowd.
Lexus Sports Model Hybrid – This model would be the high-speed, low-volume sports model of the Hybrid.
Toyota’s Executive Vice President, Takeshi Uchiyamada expects the conventional hybrids to continue being the most popular cars because the driving distances and the cost. He also predicts that the plug-in version of the Prius will eventually become more prevalent than the non-plug version. The plug-in version is also coming out in 2012 and will only cost between $3,000 – $5,000 more that the current Prius.
Toyota first introduced the Prius plug-ins with demonstration fleets across the globe, including one hundred and sixty-three plug-ins currently right here in the United States.
With the Prius plug-in you will be able to cruise your daily errands without using any gasoline and you could get 475 miles on a single tank of gas, depending on driving habits and conditions. The plug-in time will be 3 hours with a 120v outlet and 1.5 hours with a 240v outlet.
North America is the largest market for the hybrid car, and some of the six new Toyota Hybrid models will be sold here.
